5 Things To Do Before To Store Your Christmas Decorations

I put out my Christmas tree in the middle of November. It’s a tradition that my husband and I picked since we moved to Middle East, because normally, in Italy, we decorate the home on December 8th. As much as I love my living room full of Christmas decors I can’t deny that I’m a bit bored to see the Christmas tree out. It’s time to clean the room. With the years I learned some techniques to follow to pack up Christmas decorations. They avoid you last minute bad surprises when you unpack your decorations.

5 THINGS TO DO BEFORE TO PACK UP YOUR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

1. CLEAN FIRST

I have three cats and as much as I trained them not to touch the Christmas tree, they love playing around. Every season we end with some broken or damaged decorations. First thing to do is to throw them away. Better to check everything out BEFORE to pack your decorations up. This helps you to save room in your home and to make easier the process to unpack when the Christmas time comes again.

2. CHECK ALL THE LIGHTING

This is something I learned on my skin this year. Massimo and I were putting lights on the tree when we realised that one of the light garlands was partially broken. It was the last garland to put on the tree before to start with the Christmas balls. It was so annoying since we had to stop everything and to go to buy a new set of lights. So, before to pack up the lighting give them a double check. As well as any other electronic decor.

3. REMOVE BATTERIES

If some decorations or set of lights work with battery, I highly recommend to remove all batteries especially if the storage place risks to get humid.

4.USE LABELS AND BOXES

I might sounds like a crazy OCD lady, but I can’t say enough how useful is to pack up the Christmas decorations dividing them in different boxes. I have classic Christmas balls that I always put together in the same box (with a huge label on it!). Then I assemble together wood decorations / glass decorations / fragile decorations etc etc… Labels are very important because they let me recognise all the boxes, so I can correctly put everything labelled as “fragile” on the top. This is what I use to label my boxes.

5. DECLUTTER CHRISTMAS WRAP PAPERS

During the final rush to pack the Christmas gifts, you might not notice that some wrap papers are almost finished. Save five minutes of your time and double check all the paper rolls you have. If some of them are not enough neither to wrap a tiny little box, throw them away!! They keep so much space for nothing.

Labelling the boxes is eery good advice - and what I've just done this past week to make next Christmas all the easier! Great advice to check the lightbulbs as well, wishing I'd done that now, haha...
