It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
It’s Christmas’ Eve and for the first time of my life I’m not wearing a knitted sweater, two layers of socks, gloves and my favorite hat. Which is fantastic! But at the same time, it’s the first time in my life that I’m not going to be at home for Christmas with my family. This sucks. A lot.
We have a strong Christmas tradition in my family. We always meet up for lunch on December 25th. Normally there are 12 people around a table that contains food for 24 persons. At least. We sit at 1pm and we stand up at 5pm. We also have traditional food – which doesn’t mean that it’s typical Christmas food, but it’s traditional for our family since we have been eating these dishes for years.
When I was younger, we used to celebrate the Christmas’ eve, too. That was another strong Christmas tradition for us. We met up for dinner with my grandparents and we opened all gifts. As child, that was one of the best moments 🙂
When I got married, my Christmas tradition changed. We still open gifts on December 24th (and that is still one of the best moments!!) but we have to spread the time between two families now with two different Christmas traditions.
Everything is still really special. What really changed since I got married is the quantity of food. Basically I’m eating double now because if I’m at my parent’s house at lunch, we celebrate Christmas dinner at my husband’s parents’ house. Double celebration, double food 🙂
Unfortunately, due to some work deadlines, this year we are stuck in Doha. To keep away the sadnees, my husband and I tried to bring as much Christmas atmosphere in the house as possible. We have a beautiful tree decorated where I spot gifts under it (no matter what age says, I’ll be always excited for the gifts!!).
Tonight we are going to have dinner with few friends. Tomorrow is gonna be huge! 38 italian crazy people are gathering for lunch. It’s gonna be fun. Really fun!
Whatever your plan is for these next two days, I wish…
A very Merry Christmas to all of you!
