Things To Do In Qatar: Zekreet & Film City
My parents in law are in town!
It’s their first time in Qatar and they are going to stay with us for 10 days. Having guests at home means only one thing: a lot of sightseeing! But being a turist in your city is not so bad. Actually it is only in these moments that I have time to do all those activities that normally I neither consider: visiting all museums, discovering Doha, tour in the desert.
My husband and I have all the good intentions to show to my parents in law the best places in Qatar. So last weekend we decided to visit Zekreet. I’ve never been there but all friends have recommended me this place like a great escape from city’s life.
We booked the tour with Arabian Adventure and we opted for a half day tour. So at 9am the driver came to pick us up at our place and we drove till Zekreet.
Zekreet is on the west coast of Qatar (almost in front of Bahrein) and despite the Southern area where you find sand dunes, here the desert is more rocky. Zekreet has also became a famous destination for art lovers thanks to Richard Serra’s art installations. Four giant plates of I-don’t-know-what-material located in the middle of the desert. There is a particular timing during sunset where all four shadows are perfectly aligned becoming a unique one.
All around Zekreet there are rocks digged by the wind, creating a beautiful panorama. And not to far from Richard Serra’s art installations there is the famous Film City, a movie set located in the middle of the desert that reproduce an old village.
We escaped the safari tour, but I think it’s one thing that we will keep to the list of things to do in next weekends.
At 1pm we were back at home, tired, a bit sun burned but excited for this small break from the usual life in Qatar (aka, malls’ tour!).
P.s. Don’t forget to mark this event on the calendar. The Qatar International Food Festival is coming soon.
