Do we need to spend a lot of money to be well dressed? I don’t think so, even if I truely believe that one thing is splurging money, other thing is investing money in good quality.
Not all expensive items are also high in quality. Not all cheap items are burgains. We need to balance purchases.
So let’s start with a quick quiz!
Do I really need it? – I think this is a stupid question, especially for shopaholics. No probably you don’t need it, but you want it! So..
Can I afford it? First important question!
We all know our bank balances. Some of us can buy expensive things, some of us could buy them but they prefer to invest money in other ways, some of us simply cannot afford those things. But this doesn’t mean they could not be fashionable..at all!
But what you cannot be is that kind of person who wastes money buying something simply because everybody talk about it or own it. This would be very stupid, let me tell you!
Is it suitable with my body shape, my curves?
Be honest, how many times did you buy something simply because you saw it on last issue of you favourite magazine or because your friend (who is thinner, fatter, blonder, darker etc etc than you) wore it? Buy only thinghs that really work with your body and with you! You are wearing dresses, it’s not dresses which are wearing you!
Trust me, you could wear on the last beautiful Dolce&Gabbana dress, wearing those gorgeous stilettos by Louboutin and holding in your hand that fabulous Dior bag, but if they are not made for your body shape the result is aweful…and with a lot of splurge of money!
Can I buy a fake?
No you can’t. I mean again, there are no reasons for wearing something that you cannot afford and not original. Would you like to be a fake? I don’t think so.
But as it happens in every fields, the BIG NAMES in fashion inspire all other brands. It’s true. So you can easily find something that reminds to the original but at the same time is different in details. Those things should be bought!
I see many highstreet brands taking inspiration from runaways but creating their own collections.
So takes inspiration from fashion shows but then find your ways to show your personality. Don’t buy that same floral bomber jacket from the brand “
Dolce&Galbanino“. Go to
Topshop and find a similar jacket!
Don’t reduce your social life to zero because you want to save money for a pair of Rockstud by Valentino. There are options very similar to the original but with a huge difference in price!
Anyway, I hope this S.O.S Mrs B. can inspire you whoever you are: that woman who can afford the Spend Money outfit (lucky you!) or the other one who opts for the Save Money outfit.
But just remember..
“It’s not the dress which makes the difference, but the person who wears it!”

March 13, 2015Well said dear. It looks good on you.. Or not! Same here about fake stuff. I just can't buy a fake Hermes bag or fake Celine glasses. I rather would buy a bag from ZARA.

March 14, 2015Totally agree on this one. It's all about what suits you. You wear the dress and not the dress wearing you. Good points Chiara! =)

March 15, 2015I think it's true that you don't have to spend a lot of money to look good. And it's not true that quality = money. I have tons of H&M pieces that have lasted me ages. I am faced with a different issue: I would like to buy more ethical fashion, and most of it is quite pricey (for my standards, anyway).

March 16, 2015I totally agree. It doesn't matter how much you pay for clothes if you have no style. All the low cost stores now "copy" from the runways and I think this is acceptable. What I really hate are fakes. If I can't affort to buy something original I prefer to have something similar, never a fake. I think shoes are very important, shoes can make or break an outfit. xoxoxo
