The Gardens of Villa Taranto And Isola Bella

Happy Wednesday!

Welcome to another article where I’d like to share with you two more places in Verbania – my hometown – that should be on your bucket list of places to visit: the Gardens of Villa Taranto and Isola Bella.

For those who live in Verbania, the Gardens of Villa Taranto and Isola Bella are classic destinations for primary school’s trips. Probably that time was also my last time when I visited the Gardens of Villa Taranto and Isola Bella. So, Massimo and I decided to refresh our memories, paying a new trip to these places.

The Gardens of Villa Taranto

Bonjour Chiara Travel // discovering Lago Maggiore: Villa Taranto & Isola Bella

The Gardens of Villa Taranto have been nominated like the most beautiful gardens in the world! And it’s totally understandable why. You walk in to the gate, leaving the lake behind your back and you have this huge park in front of you. The gardens are divided in different areas. Each area reproduces a specific habitat or style of garden.

Following the path indicated on the map, you get to see thousand and thousand of plants, a huge variety of flowers. Depends on the period, you see giant flowerbeds full of tulips or dahlias in blooming.

At half of the way you reach the villa, which you can not visit. But few steps ahead there is a fabulous terrace with a coffee bar. The visit of the Gardens of Villa Taranto doesn’t take a lot of time. Around a couple of hours. However, having a rest at the coffee bar is recommended to enjoy at the most the view of the park. That area close to the terrace was my favorite one.

For any information regarding a tour at the Gardens of Villa Taranto, you can check the website.

Isola Bella

Isola Bella is one of the Borromean Islands on Lago Maggiore. Despite the name (Isola Bella means Beautiful Island), it’s very hard to say if it’s really the most beautiful one. All of them are seriosuly incredible, so different from each other.

Last time I was on Isola Bella was ages ago. My bad, I should visit it more often!

You reach the island by ferry boat or, if you prefer, you can take private boats. Normally there are touristic tour, planned in advance, that let you discover Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Isola Pescatori (where I got married!), Stresa, Baveno and Pallanza. You can do all the stops, or you can stay on the ferry boat until your reach your destination.

Isola Bella offers a tour inside the palace where are kept amazing collections of paintings and books. The palace itself is worth a visit. It looked to me that I could feel how life was back to previous centuries!! I’m sure those ballrooms hosted dreamy parties at the time. And I like to think that if those walls could talk, they would have so many secrets to spill out. Imagine how many love stories were born there!

Around the palace there are the beautiful gardens, famous for the flowers, colors, structures and for being the home of wonderful white peacocks. The palace, the gardens, the white peacocks… I think every girl on the island ends to feel like a princess!

WHERE TO EAT

Isola Bella hosts many restaurants and food stations. The choice is really wide. Some of them are located inside the tiny streets of the islands, very picturesque. Others boast a gorgeous view on the lake.

I personally highly recommend La Michetta if you look for a good sandwich followed by an insanely tasty ice-cream! It’s easy to reach. It’s in front of the dock, where you get out from the ferry boat.
