Yesterday I decided to skip all commercial malls and and have shopping at Souq Wafiq. It’s  the most important souq in Doha, where you find a lot of handcrafted stuff, souvenirs, spicies, garments, pearls and many other things.

Normally, the Souq is a place that I frequent in the evening. It’s full of great restaurants. Cousines from all over the world. Great food, fair prices, friendly atmosphere. And last but not least important aspect, there are many shisha bars!

However, yesterday I found out that it is also the place to close great affairs! Pearls – absolutely authentic – cost 50 Qr (which means approximately 11 euros). Vessels of plaited straw cost about 15 Qr. Spices? Less than one euro. And you cannot imagine how many different kind of spices exist. Impossible to know all of them.

In addition to the handicraft shops there are also many art galleries. Moreover, it hosts small concerts or events.

The Souq has been recently restored back to its original aspect. As guardians there are camels. Yes, camels. But you know … we are in the desert!

Yes, definitely the Souq Waquif is a destination to not miss.
